- The
power plant operating company: AZITO O&M
|
|
Within the scope of the long term development programme of Côte
d'Ivoire,
the Government decided to build the AZITO power plant for several
reasons: |
|
> to
respond the growing energy demand in Côte d'Ivoire ;
> to use the national natural gas which recent discoveries
ensure the independence in energy of Côte d'Ivoire;
> and to allow Côte d'Ivoire become the most important electricity
provider in West Africa. |
|
With a power output of 300 MegaWatts today
and 420 MegaWatts at its final stage, the AZITO power plant is the
most powerful, the most modern and thanks to its technology the most
performing power plant in West Africa. AZITO represents more than a
third of the electricity capacity in Côte d’Ivoire and does not only
ensure the autonomy in energy of Côte d’Ivoire, but also allows the
country to export electricity. |
A
STRATEGIC LOCATION
The presence nearby of natural gas resources and of the lagoon which
will allow the cooling of the power plant in the future, the existence
of high voltage transmission lines, as well as the proximity of the
future harbour area led the Ivorian government to select AZITO as the
best location for the Third Power Plant of Abidjan.
PROTECTING
THE ENVIRONNEMENT
|

|
Specific measures have been
taken in order to preserve the environment of the AZITO site.
The Power Plant was built in accordance with the Ivorian law as
well as with the environmental guidelines from World Bank.
Atmospheric emissions from the power plant stacks are measured
continuously.
The impact on the environment is also analysed.
