CONSTRUCTION PROCESS

A successful challenge

An exceptionally short construction schedule: after the beginning of the works in July, 1998 the first phase (a 150 MW turbine) was completed on January, 15th 1999. The second phase (another 150 MW turbine) was commissioned in February 2000.

	July 1998: beginning of civil engineering and earthworks		September 19, 1998: arrival of the first turbine (340 tons) and generator (225 tons)
	December 16, 1998: commissioning of AZITO station and tie-in with the existing transmission line		January 1999: inauguration of the first phase of the AZITO power plant after only 6 months after the beginning of works
	May 1999: arrival of the second turbine		February 2000: both turbines are in operation
